Why Learn First Aid & CPR?

This First Aid & CPR course provides training in the skills and knowledge required to provide an emergency response, life support and management of any casualties, the incident and other First Aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

As well as including the skills and knowledge required to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), this course includes how to operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in an emergency in line with ANZCOR Guidelines as endorsed by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC).

Course Description

Participants will learn how to conduct basic first aid response, life support and casualty management, including cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and operation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) until medical help or assistance arrives.

This program is delivered in accordance with ANZCOR Guidelines, as endorsed by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC).

Units of Competency

  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
  • HLTAID011 Provide first aid

    • Skills and limitations of First Aiders
    • First response management of common conditions
    • Stress management facilitators and how they can be assessed
    • Casualty assessments and decision making

    Mode of Delivery

    This course will be delivered via face to face or can be delivered as a blend of self-paced online and face-to-face facilitation.

    For individuals we offer scheduled training programs in the Illawarra region on the scheduled dates listed above, choose the date suitable to you.

    Duration*

    This course is scheduled for:

    1 day (8 hours) of face-to-face learning and assessment

    Or

    Online learning and assessment and 5 hours of face-to-face practical demonstrations (group bookings only)


    Pre-Requisite and Entry Requirements

    Students holding a previous certification for the unit of competency and are seeking recognition must supply their credential at the time of enrolment.

    Students must have language, literacy and numeracy skills (LLN) to interpret and apply relevant information to commence learning in this program. An LLN assessment may be conducted upon receipt of enrolment application to ensure each student has the appropriate level of skills required to undertake this course.

    Certification

    Students who successfully complete this course and demonstrate competence will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment under the Australian Qualifications Framework. The certification will be issued by Risk Response and Rescue (RTO 90774).

    Course Inclusions

    All course materials, handouts and personal protective equipment will be provided.

    Student Requirements

    Students must be physically capable of performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.

    Students must wear appropriate clothing and footwear when attending face-to-face sessions.

    Students require a laptop or computer and stable internet connection for online courses.

    Additional Information

    CPR training must be updated every 12 months.

    First Aid training must be updated every 3 years.
