Why Learn CPR?

Approximately 30,000 people suffer Cardiac Arrest in Australia each year with only about 10% surviving. Statistics show survival rates significantly increase when a AED is used on time. The ARC guidelines suggest that the survival rate however drops as much as 10% for every minute which passes without AED support during ventricular fibrillation, a shockable rhythm.  For more information read our BLOG

Course Description

This program provides the skills and knowledge required to provide basic life support until the arrival of medical or other assistance. It focuses on providing participants with the competency and confidence to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in an emergency in line with the ANZCOR Guidelines as endorsed by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC).

Course Outline

• Assess the incident scene
• Conduct D-R-S-A-B-C-D
• Provide CPR on adults, children and babies
• Roll patient into recovery position
• Handover to medical personnel
• Manage a choking patient

Mode of Delivery

This course will be delivered via face to face or can be delivered as a blend of self-paced online and face-to-face facilitation.

Duration*

This course is scheduled for:

4 hours of face-to-face learning and assessment

or

Online learning and assessment and 2.5 hours of face-to-face practical demonstrations (group bookings only)

Pre-Requisite and Entry Requirements

Students holding a previous certification for the unit of competency and are seeking recognition must supply their credential at the time of enrolment.

Students must have language, literacy and numeracy skills (LLN) to interpret and apply relevant information to commence learning in this program. An LLN assessment may be conducted upon receipt of enrolment application to ensure each student has the appropriate level of skills required to undertake this course.

Certification

Students who successfully complete this course and demonstrate competence will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment under the Australian Qualifications Framework. The certification will be issued by Risk Response and Rescue (RTO 90774).

Student Requirements

Students must be physically capable of performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.

Students must wear appropriate clothing and footwear when attending face-to-face sessions.

Students require a laptop or computer and stable internet connection for online courses.

Additional Information

CPR training must be updated every 12 months.
