How to tie basic figure of eight knot
A single figure of eight knot is a strong, reliable knot that is commonly used in vertical rescue and climbing situations. The figure of eight knot gets its name from its shape, which resembles the number "8" when it is properly tied.

Here's how to tie a figure of eight knot:

Start by grabbing a bight of rope, then bring the tail end of the rope around and behind  to form a loop.

Continue to bring the tail end of the rope  forward then up through the hole created by the loop.

Tighten the knot by pulling on both the working end and tail of the rope in opposite directions.

This can be used as a stopper knot at the end of your rope or to form the start of the figure of eight follow through.
